Employee Engagement Drivers in Bangladesh: A Case Study of Foreign and Local Pharmaceutical Companies

Abstract


The aim of this study is to examine and compare employee engagement drivers in the context of local and foreign pharmaceuticals companies operating in Bangladesh. To collect data and arrive at the results, the researchers chose four local and four foreign companies, which have been dominating the industry. Data have been collected through qualitative research interviews to drill down more deeply into the stories and accounts which often underlie and illustrate the one word answers which surveys often evince. The results of this study show that both foreign and local companies have certain policies and practices in light of employee engagement drivers, namely, leadership, engaging managers, employee voice, and integrity. However, employees working at the foreign firms tend to be more engaged at work since they have more established grievance policies or voice mechanisms, contemporary feedback procedures, independent HR audit, and effective employee ownership strategies as compared to their local counterparts.
